Rationale

In order to fulfil our cybersecurity duties we need accurate and up-to-date information about the state of the Internet.

After evaluating the free and commercial solutions available, we failed to find anything exhaustive and accurate and up-to-date.

Given that the data itself is available from the authoritative registries — albeit scattered across difference sources in mis-aligned formats — we resolved to invest into coding our own ASN, Routes and IP data aggregation solution.

While offered for free, A1 is funded by the profit generated at OPRAND. We see it as:

1. A marketing expense — money and time-wise
2. An increased incentive to ensure our data is accurate
3. A potential future product line
